About Ocean View
At once a laid-back beach village, resort area, and residential neighborhood, Ocean View (or OV, as it's referred to by the locals) defies all of those labels with it's unique character. Often referred to as Norfolk's "Gold Coast" because of its great potential for economic development, OV features dozens of thriving businesses, from restaurants and shopping to arts and finance, real estate, health, and wellness establishments. The five miles of bay beaches attract visitors from all over Hampton Roads, and beyond, as do regular summertime events and festivals. Because of its placement near two naval bases, the Hampton-Roads Bridge Tunnel, and the Norfolk airport, OV attracts as many residents as it does those looking for a place to play.

"When I first moved to Ocean View in 2009, I found the beauty and complexity overwhelming and intoxicating. I felt compelled to photograph it, having grown up in a homogenized part of the Old South...I have never seen a place as eclectic as Ocean View." -Pultizer Prize winning photographer Preston Gannaway
ake a drive along West Ocean View Avenue and into the quaint Norfolk neighborhood of Willoughby Spit and it can indeed seem like a trip back in time to a beach town from another era. As a matter of fact, it would hardly seem like a surprise at all to find Jimmy Buffet sitting on the sand in the bright afternoon sunshine, singing songs about relaxing later with his favorite frozen concoction.
